Summer Art Classes
We were able to announce a new addition to this summer offerings: pair of art classes that will start at the facility July 16 thanks to our continued partnership with the Madera County Arts Council.
Every Tuesday through August 13, 3D artist Adam Mena will lead kids on an exploration of both clay and found object media based sculpture. Wednesday’s classes will delve in to numerous two-dimensional art projects with Elaine Blake of Madera.
The classes are a continuation of courses offered last year through the museum’s partnership with the Madera County Arts Council. Art and photography classes attracted a lot of interest, and the museum leadership wanted to continue that this summer.
“Last year’s programs were funded as part of a grant that was not available to us this year. We pursued a different funding approach and where rewarded with generous sponsorship from two local service organizations: the Oakhurst Sierra Sunrise Rotary and the Soroptimist International of the Sierras,” said Steve Montalto, Director of the Children’s Museum of the Sierra.
“Offering these classes would not have been possible without their support,” he said.
There will be two classes on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. The first session is from 10:00 to 11:30, the second is from noon to 1:30 pm. Cost for participation in these classes is free with museum membership or $6 admission.
Class sizes are limited, so parents are asked to call the museum to register their kids. You can reach us at 559-658-5656.
Thanksgiving week changes
Turkey Day is quickly coming up and hopefully everyone is ahead of the game regarding preparations (I think we’re still playing a bit of catch-up but not to worry…). A programing change for this holiday weeK: Maestros Rosa is de vacaciones with her family this week so there will be no Preschool or Homeschool Spanish classes. Messy Hands and Music & Movement will take place on their normal days and times. Happy Thanksgiving everyone!

The goodness keeps on going! A big shout out to all to attended and supported the programs we started (or continued in the case of Messy Hands) in September. And a real big shout out to two special folks, Rosa Ruiz and Tamara Dent for creating and leading the Spanish and Music and Movement classes we are very grateful to you both! They enjoyed them so much that they are back for another round! Tamara says “Music & Movement forever!” and believe me we are so good with that!
